Millennial women: Motivations to study technology careers

Abstract

The objective of the study is to interpret the perception of teachers and students of Connectivity and Networks, in daytime and in evening programs, about the motivations of millennial women who decided to study this technological career. The use of a mixed sequential methodology allowed to achieve the objective, which was applied in a private Professional Institute. The qualitative paradigm prevailed, through semi-structured interviews and exceptionally, male students participated in a quantitative survey. It was thus possible to compare the perceptions of the subjects. The result refers to the obstacles that millennial women must deal with and that have to do with the stereotypes present in the educational material and environment. The policies of each Higher Education Institution must be oriented towards ensuring increased visibility, participation and respect for women.
